SFC: Curraha sunk by Tones goals

August 02, 2020

Curraha's Jack O'Connor

Curraha 0 - 12,  Wolfe Tones 4 -11

The old adage of " goals win games" was certainly proved true at Bective on Saturday afternoon as Curraha lost out to Wolfe Tones in the opening round of the Senior Football Championship.

Curraha started brightly with Jack O'Connor cutting through for a point and by winning a lot of breaking ball around the centre and running at the defence they led by five points to one after ten minutes.

Wolfe Tones then started to create more chances and two goals from Fiacra Ward either side of the first water break swung the game to their advantage. At half time the score was Curraha 0 - 7,  Wolfe Tones 2 - 5. Three pointed frees by O'Connor, two points from James McEntee and one from David Coyle accounted for Curraha's first half scores.

Wolfe Tones struck for two more goals early in the second half. Curraha's cause was then dealt a further blow with controversial  sending off of James McEntee on a second yellow card. To their Credit Curraha never gave up and continued trying to break down the very solid Wolfe Tones defence. Curraha's second half scorers were Jack O'Connor three (2 frees), David Toner and Padraic O'Hanrahan.
