Meath supporters flocked to Croke Park on Independence Day 1999 for a Leinster SFC quarter final clash with Offaly

The message from Croke Park was loud and clear and only the foolish would choose to ignore it. Beware! Meath are back and looking good, very good indeed. Brian Carthy's 'The Championship 1999' after Meath defeated The Faithful 1-13 to 0-9 to set up a Leinster Final date with Dublin this day 21 years ago.

The teams were level at the break 0-7 each but Sean Boylan's charges completely dominated the second half restricting the 1997 Leinster champions to just two points from frees. 

Tommy Dowd and Ollie Murphy were in sparkling form. Dowd finished with four points while the Carnaross All Star hit 1-3. John McDermott controlled the middle of the field while the defence led by keeper Cormac Sullivan, Darren Fay and Mark O'Reilly were outstanding.

It was another step on the road to a very memorable year.
