Centre back pick: Meath's Best Team from our last four All-Ireland wins

March 27, 2020

Enda McManus and Liam Harnan

Unprecedented quiet times on the GAA front and with no return on the horizon because of Covid-19 we have come up with a novel way to keeping your Royal GAA mind occupied.

Since 1988 we have won four All-Ireland finals. You the reader can have a say in picking our Best XV from that glorious era.

Two men dominated the Number 6 jersey from that glorious period between 1986 to 1999.

Liam Harnan was outstanding for the Royals in the ’87 and ’88 All Ireland wins. Many an opposition attack faltered around the powerful Moynalvey defender. Harnan also won 5 Leinster's and 2 National League's and it’s still a mystery how he never picked up an All Star Award.

Fast forward to 1996 and Enda McManus donned the number 6 jersey. The Dunboyne star manned the same position in 1999 as Cork were seen off in Croke Park. Quiet and effective McManus, who retired at 28 after a series of injuries, also claimed All Ireland minor and Under 21 medals in 1990 and 1993. Another who probably should have been awarded an All Star.
