SFC preliminary quarter final: Neighbours end the 'Ha's' run

September 23, 2019

Curraha's Conor Moriarty

Curraha 0-09  Donaghmore Ashbourne 1-13

Curraha's second season at senior level came to an end in this local derby as Donaghmore Ashbourne outplayed their neighbours for most of the game.

David Toner opened the scoring after five minutes with a point for Curraha  but fifteen minutes would pass before Brian Murphy added a second during which time Donaghmore Ashbourne raised four white flags with club and county goalkeeper Andy Colgan unerring from placed kicks.

A pointed free from Jack O'Connor narrowed the margin to two points but from the resulting kick out Donaghmore Ashbourne swept down the pitch for a goal which was the decisive score of the game.

This was followed by two further points from the 'Moors while Conor Moriarty added a point in stoppage time to leave the 'Ha trailing by five at the break.

On the resumption an O'Connor pointed free was followed by three unanswered points from the town side to open an eight point gap.

Curraha then had their best spell of the gameas they pressed forward and were rewarded with three pointed frees from O'Connor and one from Moriarty to halve the deficit to just four points with time running out.

However it was Donaghmore Ashbourne who finished stronger and fired over three points in stoppage time.

Curraha will look back and rue some wayward shooting in the first half as they never reached the level that saw them win their previous three games.

The squad and management can be proud of their season all the same as they gave their large number of supporters plenty to cheer about during the year.
