Dunderry's Bob Doherty

Dunderry 2-20 Donaghmore Ashbourne 2-08

It was a splendid Sunday afternoon in Walterstown for the meeting of top v bottom in Group C. Playing conditions were perfect and so too was the surface, credit to Walterstown for having their pitch in immaculate condition.

Coming off the back of a narrow defeat to Duleek / Bellewstown a fortnight ago it was very important for Dunderry to get back on track with another victory and 2 points in their bid to top Group C.

It was a tense opening to the game and the first score arrived when Bob Doherty got out in front and swung the ball over the blackspot to get Dunderry off the mark. Don / Ash responded with interest and found the back of the net with a well taken goal past young debutant Sean Brennan.

There was no stopping Don / Ash at this point as they found their grove and continued to apply the pressure on Dunderry for the next 10 minutes. Although not fully at the pace of the game just yet Dunderry managed to stay in the game with fine scores from Bomber Farrell, Morgan Callaghan and Conor Daly and also spurning some great goal chances which were saved well by the Don / Ash keeper.

At the break it was advantage Don / Ash with a scoreline of 1-6 to 0-8.

As has happened in some previous games Dunderry took to the field a rejuvenated outfit for the second half and took no prisoners. They raced out of the traps and blitzed the opposition for 1-3 without reply. A well taken goal from Bomber Farrell and points from Adam Kelly, Jordy Martyn and Marc Kane had Dunderry in control.

A further blow to Don / Ash when an off the ball incident resulted in them being reduced to 14 men, their challenge became a lot harder after this.

Their was no let up in the Dunderry press and further scores from Luke Martyn, Bob Doherty, Adam Kelly and 1-1 from veteran Swiss Clarke saw Dunderry run out comprehensive winners.

A fine second half performance which saw  2-12 come from play.

Next up for Dunderry in 2 weeks time is St Peters Dunboyne in the final group game. A victory there could secure top spot in group C.
