IFC: Rooney's goal crucial for the 'Hill'

An early Tommy Rooney goal proved to be the key score as Meath Hill beat Drumbaragh in Round 4 of IFC Group in Nobber on Sunday afternoon.

Rooney’s goal on seven minutes was Meath Hill’s only score for the first 25 minutes as Drumbaragh led by 0-6 to 1-0.  Meath Hill finished the half the strongest however, scoring 5 points in quick succession, a brace from Mark Tully and one each from Dean Martin, Jack McMahon and Dominic Yorke. Half time 1-5 to 0-6.

The ‘Hill stretched their lead to 5 points at the start of the second half with a further Tully point and two from Paddy Matthews.  The gap remained at 5 points or less for the rest of the match and Meath Hill held on for a 3 point victory despite an injury time goal mouth scramble.

Meath Hill play Ballinlough  in the final group match knowing they still need at least a point to qualify for the quarter finals.
