Clann Na nGael 0-18 Drumree 1-13

Clann na nGael continued their good form in this year’s IHC and for the second year in a row have qualified for the semi-final with the remaining Round 5 game against Gael Colmcille still to be played.

Clans did not have it all their own way in Boardsmill against a spirited Drumree team who opened the scoring early after 3 minutes and lead by 2 points after 15 minutes on a score line of 0-05 to 0-03. Clanns were wasteful in the first half and despite missing some clear cut opportunities to score, both from placed balls and from play, they reeled Drumree back in and ended the first half level on a score line of 9 points each.

Clann na nGael introduced the excellent Aaron Doherty at half time and they seemed to settle quicker after the restart than their opponents. While some fine scores flowed from the Clanns attack, with Calum O’Sullivan also accurately dispatching a number of frees, this important victory was carved out of an excellent defensive display with Gary Mangan, Jack Doherty and the Swaine brothers, Luke and Killian to the fore. The introduction of Paddy Geraghty and Cian Swaine during the second half improved the Clanns attack and notwithstanding a very late Drumree goal coming direct from a 20 meter free, Clann na nGael saw out the game and deservedly obtained their fourth win on the spin in this year’s I.H.C. on a score line of 0-18 to 1-13.

Clann na nGael: E. Griffin, C. Garry, G. Mangan, J. Doherty, S. Reilly, K. Swaine, L. Swaine, O. Cassidy, C. O’Sullivan, G. O’Sullivan, S. Leavy, J. McGrath, G. Cole, E. O’Donnchadha, D. O’Donnchadha,

Subs: A. Doherty for C. Garry, P. Geraghty for J. McGrath, C. Swaine for D. O’Donnchadha,
