St Ultans 3-16 Ballinabrackey 2-08
St Ultans hosted Ballinbrackey on Friday evening in a sun soaked Sean Newman Park in this Div 4 B-league game.
It was the home side who started the brighter, Eoin Kavanagh opened the scoring from a free after one minute. He went on and scored the next 2, from play, giving the men in green and black an early lead.
Ballinabrackey scored their first point after 7 minutes. They went on to score a further 3 points, giving them a one point lead after 11 minutes.
Ultans then took control of the game, scoring 1-07 without reply before halftime. Ben Coogan getting the goal after a good team move. Tadhg Ratty scored 3, Kavanagh added 2 to his personal tally, Coogan and Paul Murray scored a point each to leave it 1-10 to 0-04 at halftime.
Ultans began the second half with a sucker punch after just 1 minute. Ratty scoring his sides second goal. Then Kavanagh and Ratty kept the score board ticking over with a point each. Ballinabrackey responded with a goal and 2 points of their own.
A strong bench allowed Ultans to use the full complement and remain in control. Conor Smyth got in on the action with a point. Ballinabrackey applied pressure on a well disappointed Ultans defense and got their award late on with 1-02 in the closing stages. It might have been more only for good saves from Ultans keeper Shane Rennicks.
Ultans finished the scoring when Barry Brady netted with the last kick of the game. It capped a fine performance by the Ultans, winning out 3-16 to 2-08. Many involved will be hoping to feature when St Ultans take on St Bridgets in the Tailteann Cup on Tuesday evening.
