Clann na nGael secure victory against Drumree in Division 2 Hurling League.
Clann Na nGael 3-23 Drumree 0-09
Clann na nGael recorded their third victory from 5 outings in this evenings (May 11th) hour delayed Round 6 of the Division 2 Hurling League game played in Athboy.
The earlier postponed Na Fianna game has yet to be re-fixed. This match against Drumree was frustratingly delayed due to what seems to be the non-appointment of a referee. This is the second game this week involving a Clann na nGael hurling match, wherein no referee was available to commence the game at the appointed start time and were it not for Paddy Melia, who officiated at short notice, the large crowd and both teams would have been thoroughly disappointed, indeed some people had already left as the game was ultimately an hour late starting. This unacceptable situation needs to be urgently addressed by the Meath County Board.
Eventually when the ball was thrown in, it was Drumree who got off to a fast start and were ahead after two minutes with the first score of the game. Clanns immediately responded with a point of their own and then an extremely well taking goal by Gary Cole who sent an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net from 20m. Clanns started to take control of the game and sent over a number of excellent points from the impressive Shane Leavy, Josh McGrath and Ollie Cassidy. With the impressive Killian Swaine at centre back and Luke Swaine playing a captains role at midfield, alongside the energetic Conor Fenton, Clann na nGael held a commanding lead at half time on a score line of 2-14 to 0-08.
Clanns maintained the tempo in the second half with Eoin Griffin excelling in goal and the full back line of Jack Doherty, Gary Mangan and Paddy Tiernan snuffing out and chance of a goal induced Drumree fightback. Clanns emptied the bench in the last twenty minutes of the match and pushed on to record a victory on a final score line of 3-23 to 0-09.
