IFC: Castletown's unbeaten run continues

Castletown's unbeaten run for 2019 continued on Saturday late afternoon in Athboy with this two point victory over Ballinabrackey in the IFC. 

This wasnt a classic but it was a game that could have went either way with Castletown finishing the stronger to take the win and second victory in this years Championship. Ballinabrackey who were defeated in round one against Trim scored first a free after 8 minutes but for Kevin Ross to reply with a point from play a minute later. The Bracks then scored 4 points in a row between the 11th and the 19 minutes to go four up before a minute later Castletowns corner forward Tommy Smith caught a ball, turned and rifled it to the Ballinabrackey net to narrow the lead to a single point. Ballinabrackey hit another point on 26 minutes before Castletowns Barry Smith hit 1-01 a minute later to put Castletown 2 points ahead. Ballinabrackey scored a pointed free in the 30th minute just before referee Jack Gordon blew the half time whistle to leave it Castletown 2-02 to 0-07 for Ballinabrackey. 

Castletown started the second period well but with three wides this was not a fruitful period and Ballinabrackey scored three points in a row from play to retake the lead with 20 minutes left to play. Castletown themselves then scored 3 points in a row Declan Cribbin from play on 42 minutes, a free from Kevin Ross on 50 minutes and Kenny Smith from play on 51 minutes before Ballinabrackey got one back in the same minute. Two points for Castletown from Darren Finney and Kevin Ross both frees left Castletown two point up with just 5 minutes to go. With both sides swapping points in the 62nd minute Ballinabrackey first and then a nerve settling point for Castletown from Darren Finney which was the final score of the game to leave it Castletown 2-08 to Ballinabrackeys 0-12. 

Castletown have Drumbaragh in round 7 of A league Div 3 on Wednesday night in Castletown at 8pm preceeded on Tuesday night by Junior D Championship in Castletown against Trim.
