Gaeil Colmcille 2-14 St. Patrick's 1-10
Gaeil Colmcille made it two wins from two when they beat St. Patrick's by 7 points in a glorious afternoon in Rathkenny.
In a tense opening quarter, the sides were level at 0-04 a piece thanks to three points from Brian Hanlon and a Seamus Mattimoe point for the Kells men. Evan Sheridan pipped the Gaeils in front on 20 minutes, three minutes later Hanlon tore down and goal and his effort rattled off the crossbar but Ryan Farnham was waiting to tap into an empty net to put some breathing space between the sides.
The Gaeils added three more scores to close out the half, with points coming from Sheridan, Farnham and Mattimoe to see Kells go in 1-08 to 0-05 ahead at the break.
St. Patrick's came out the stronger in the second half and registered the opening two scores thanks to two placed balls. But any hope of a comeback were dashed when Farnham got his second goal of the game in bizarre circumstances, his initial shot was well saved onto the upright by the Pat's keeper but for it to ricochet back to Farnham and into the net.
With Kells pulling clear the forward line exerted themselves with some excellent scores from Liam Ferguson, Oisin Reilly and substitute Fionn Reilly.
St. Patrick's did pull a goal back from the penalty spot in injury time, but there was still time for one more score from Fionn Reilly to wrap up the all important two points as we head into the Championship Summer break.
