Ratoath welcomed Na Fianna to Sean Eiffe Park on a bright but cold morning this Sunday for this round 3 ACFL clash.

The two teams served up a fantastic game of football to give the crowd in attendance their monies worth

Ratoath started quickly and had scored 3 points before Na Fianna got off the mark! Thereafter it was pretty much point for point as the game switched from end to end

Ratoath led by a point 0-9 to 0-8.

The second half saw Na Fianna come out of the blocks very strong and two quick fire goals looked to have changed the momentum of the game towards but Ratoath stuck to their task and responded with goals of their own to get back in front.

Na Fianna kept plugging away and the game was in the mix right to the final whistle

Na Fianna 2 -14 Ratoath 3-13

Na Fianna CLG travelled to Sean Eiffe Pk to face Ratoath in their 3rd AFL Division 1 fixture of 2019. The game was played on a bright crisp Sunday morning with a cross wind blowing making conditions tricky for both teams. Ratoath started brightly scoring direct from a free and followed with two well taken points. Na Fianna through Jamie Queeney got on the scoresheet after 6 minutes. Na Fianna followed up with another point after Dan Devine burst from defence and played a through ball to Shane Walsh who converted.

The game was end to end and Ratoath restored their 2 point lead from a free. Good interplay between the Na Fianna players led to Dan Queeney scoring his first point and excellent play by Conor Downey enabled him to feed the ball to Dan Queeney who scored his 2nd point of the first half.

With both teams level it was Na Fianna who took the lead for the first time after 15 minutes when Dan Queeney pointed from a free. This sparked a quick reply from Ratoath who drew level from a free two minutes later.

The first yellow card resulted after a high tackle from a Ratoath player was issued in the 18th minute. Ratoath were now pushing forward and were denied another score due to a great block. However, they were not to be denied as they pointed moments later to regain the lead.

Both teams were well matched and it was Na Fianna through Michael Collins who levelled the game. Shane Walsh pointed following a poor kick out to put Na Fianna ahead, but Ratoath recovered to level the game. Na. Fianna again pointed, only for Ratoath to finish the first half stronger by scoring two points, one from a free.

Na Fianna made their first substation of the game at the start of the 2nd half with Luke Kelly replacing Brian Queeney. The pace of the game was relentless with lots of end to end action. Na Fianna were first to score when Dan Queeney pointed from a free to level the game. Two quick goals for Na Fianna followed with Conor Downey and Shane Walsh scoring.

Ratoath reduced the deficit to three points in the 36th minute when they scored their first goal. Things got even better for Ratoath as they scored 2.02 without reply to take a five point lead by the 42nd minute.

Na Fianna continued to push forward in an effort to claw back the Ratoath lead and were rewarded when Shane Walsh pointed to put 4 points between the sides. Jack McNally took over free taking duty when Dan Queeney was replaced by Johnny Baldwin in the 47th minute and Jack scored his first free of the game. Ratoath were next to score a point and this was followed by a couple of missed scoring opportunities for both teams. Jack McNally scored his second point from a free to close the gap to three points. Na Fianna drove forward and were rewarded as Jamie Queeney and Conor Downey reduced the margin to one point with time running out. However, it was Ratoath who scored the final point of the game to extend their advantage to two points at the final whistle.
