St. Pauls Ratoath tops in goals galore thriller

St Pauls NS Ratoath were crowned Allianz Meath Cumann Na mBunscol Boys Division 1 Shield final winners are this thrilling encounter with Duleek at Pairc Tailteann.

The first half produced eight goals as the winners went in at the break a point ahead. The outstanding Seán Twyford scored 2-3 in that opening half. Conor Godkin and Matthew Braiden also got in on the goal scoring act. Cian O’Halloran (2-1), Eamon Armstrong (1-0), Leon Hudson (0-1) and Jamie Hunt (1-0) accounted for the Duleek tally as the Ratoath school went in at the break 4-3 to 4-2 in front.

Duleek raced in to the lead in the early stages of the second half with points from O'Halloran and Sam Heeney aloneg with an Armstrong goal. Twyford had the Pauls ahead again after ten minutes with another brace of goals and by the 15th minute his team were 7-6 to 5-6 in front and looking good for victory. But Duleek kept battling, kicking five unanswered points, but couldn't find the equaliser as time ran out and Ratoath were crowned champions for the first time.
