U21 A FC: Goals send Vincents/Curraha through

November 13, 2018

Curraha's Conor Moriarty

St. Vincents/Curraha 5-05  Trim 3-09

Curraha/St.Vincents made a slow start to Sunday's Under 21 A Semi Final against Trim in Walterstown.

The men in red and white raced into a 2-4 to no score lead in after 15 minutes. Aaron Lynch was causing major problems for the combination side scoring 1-4 which was helped by the strong breeze. Slowly but surely the Curraha/Vincents men got to grips with the game and were creating chances, but were finishing poorly. With ten minutes remaining in the opening half the combination side hit a purple patch and Jack O Connor rattled the net with a fine goal which was swiftly followed by a Conor Moriarty penalty. A third goal from Andrew Battersby brought his side right back into the game. Conor Moriarty played an instrumental role in all 3 of the goals. Hard work from Eoghan Corry and Jack Byrne could be seen around the middle of the park and it was a fantastic point from Nigel Hand that ended proceedings in the opening half. Trim held a one-point lead at halftime of 2-05 to 3-01.

In the second half the likes of Conor Hartford and Andrew Moriarty started to get on top of their men while David Corry was keeping close tabs on Lynch. However Trim managed to go back up by 4 pts but the experience of Brian Joyce and Brian Murphy saw them get on top in the middle third and they were outstanding at driving up the pitch and through the Trim defence. Moriarty tagged on a brace of points and followed it with a great goal. O’Connor got his second goal soon after to give his side a three-point lead approaching injury time. The Trim goalkeeper stopped a goal bound shot from O'Connor and without delay Trim were on the counter attack and broke up the field and got a goal to draw the game. Again it was the hard work and experience of Joyce and Murphy that gave the combined side momentum to go on and win the game and O'Connor made no mistake when putting his side back in front with a fine score. Leo Corry scored the insurance point from resulting the kick out and this hard fought win should stand to them in the final.
