IFC pre-lim quarter final: Coogan inspires Dunderry

Dunderry maintained their winning momentum in the IFC with a hard workman like performance against a tough Duleek/ Bellewstown side in Dunshaughlin.

Duleek registered the opening 3 points in the 2nd, 6th and 7th minutes with Dunderry replying in the 5th with a point from Oisin Martyn. Duleek got their 4th score in the 9th minute but from there on Dunderry went on the offensive and in a 10 minute spell scored 1-4, the goal coming from a penalty converted by Stephen Coogan after Luke Martyn was dragged down in the square.

Coogan added 2 more points in the 16th and 18th mins plus one each from Paddy Kennelly and Morgan Callaghan in the 12th and 19th mins. Dunderry's defence held firm with a superb save from Davy Jennings and last ditch tackles from Aaron Newman and Conor Dempsey. A certain goal was superbly blocked by Davy McCormack. Duleek scored 4 points in the final three minutes of the half but Dermot Kelly knocked over the last score in added time from a free to leave the half time score 1-6 to 0-8 to Dunderry. 

The 2nd half saw Dunderry fly out of the blocks with Coogan and Kennelly scoring the opening points. Duleek replied with 2 more points but Coogan was relentless and in the final 15 mins he scored 0-5 with 3 coming from free's. Duleek threw everything at Dunderry in the last 10 minutes scoring 4 points but they held firm and set up a semi final meeting with Ballinabrackey next up Sunday 9/9/18 at 6.30pm in Simonstown
