Summerhill 4-9 Navan O'Mahonys 0-10
Summerhill collected their third win in Group B of the Meath SFC with this 11 point win over Navan O'Mahonys in dull conditions at Pairc Tailteann.
Maybe it was the Tuesday night throw-in but this game never really came to life. Both teams were short a number of regulars but, most notably, Stephen and David Bray and Marcas Brennan were missing from the Navan lineout through injury. Before proceedings got underway, a minute's silence was observed in memory of Eamon Keelaghan.
With 20 minutes gone, Summerhill lead by 0-5 to 0-2 before they opened up the Navan defence with two goals inside a minute. The impressive Sean Dalton raised the first green flag and this was quickly followed by Davy Dalton with a smart finish to put John Lyons' men in control. Paul Whelehan pointed a free for O'Mahonys before the break but the 'Hill went to the dressing rooms 2-5 to 0-3 in front.
Kevin Reilly's charges enjoyed their best spell in the opening 15 minutes of the second half. While Barry Dardis pointed three times in that third quarter, Navan added scores through Shane Gillespie (4), Dylan Regan and Cathal Smyth. Smyth's shot was goal bound but for a timely intervention by Summerhill defender Willie Ryan. With ten minutes remaining only five points separated the teams 2-8 to 0-9 but that was as good as it got for O'Mahonys.
David Larkin cut through from the 40 to score a fine individual goal on the 55th minute and, as in the first half, the fourth major followed a minute later when Dalton fisted a rebound to the Navan net.
Summerhill and Skryne share top spot in the group on six points. The Hill' are scheduled to play Na Fianna the final round while O'Mahonys will be up against the Tara men.
