JFC C: Simonstown reach quarter final

August 14, 2018

Simonstown 4-10  Walterstown 2-12

Simonstown travelled to Castletown to take on Walterstown in the last group game in the Junior C championship.

A win for the north Navan men would see them qualify for the knock out stages of the competition. Keith Brady opened the Simonstown account early on and Walterstown responded with a point of there own shortly after. Simonstown found the Walterstown net 7 mins in for the first time after a well worked team move and finished nicely by Daire Corcoran. Soon after there was a second goal added. After a turn over in their own half back line the ball was worked up the pitch quickly and finished off by Johnny Hand and then Corcoran added a further point. Walterstown came to life and rallied and kicked a few points to get them back into the game and a few mins before halftime Shane Kieran added a third goal for the Simonstown as they went in at the break 3-02 to 0-08 in front.

The winners got 3 early second half points on the board through two Keith Brady frees and Alan Meade from play. Walterstown kicked 3 to remain in the contest and also tested Ben Clarke in the Simonstown net who pulled off a great save to deny a certain goal. Andrew Burlingham then opened his account for the day with a point followed by another Keith Brady free and a Sean Gough goal. Walterstown did eventually find the Gaels net with a cracking goal from full-forward Joey Coogan. In the last 10 mins Simonstown added 3 points, 2 from Andrew Burlingham and 1 from Alan Meade to seal victory and a place in the knockout stages.
