Trim 1-21  Dunderry 2-11

Trim senior hurling team overcame a spirited Dunderry team to win this championship match in a sweltering Pairc Tailteann yesterday afternoon.

The winners fielded a much weakend team with, Ciaran O'Rourke, James Cullen and James Toher on holidays and were also without the services of Michael Cullen and Neil Heffernan who are out injured. On the plus side Peter Farrell made his return to senior action after a twelve month gap with injury. Another plus for Trim was the debut of seventeen year old Cian Lee who gave a very assured performance in his first outing at adult level in the red jersey.  With some many established senior hurlers ruled out this was going to be a banana skin for the Town team and it turned out just like that.

Trim got off to a good start with two points in the first two minutes from Brian Dowling. Dunderry responded with two quick points to level matters after four minutes from the stick of Luke Martin. Ciaran Joyce added Trim's third point on the fifth minute. The impressive Luke Martin then hit the back of the net for Dunderry to put his team ahead by two points. Trim struck back with another Dowling point to reduce the lead to just one point. Dylan Keenan tapped over a free for the Village in the ninth minute. Trim then came to life and started to play some lovely hurling and scored four points on the trot by the twenty first minute. The points came from Dowling (2) Damo McGee (1) and Thomas Farrell (1). These points put Trim up by two points with nine minutes to play in the first half. Dunderry to their credit were not going to lie down and answered the four Trim points with five points of their own before the half time whistle with Ciaran Joyce getting his second score of the match in-between the Dunderry five scores.

Trim came out in the second half like a team possessed, there must have been some harsh words spoken in the dressing room at half time. Trim scored five points without reply in the first ten minutes of the second half, Dowling having a good game got one, Joyce who was outstanding throughout this match got two and Alan Douglas and Damo McGee also added points. These scores put Trim three points ahead, Dunderry responded again with a point from a free from Keenan. Joyce, Douglas and Dowling then added three points for the Town side that were now starting to gain vital possession in the middle of the field. Alan Douglas was bossing matters at number eight but was also helping out in defence and attack in a high energy performance. Trim were now five points up with ten minutes to go. Dunderry got their second score of the second half with nine minutes to play to reduce the Trim lead to four.

From the puck out Liam Dempsey gained possession, hit a hopeful ball into the Trim square this ball caused confusion between the Trim full back line and keeper Charlie Ennis and lead to a Dunderry played been left unmarked and the ball was bundled into the back of the net. Only one between the sides now with eight to play, Dunderry tails were now up. Trim introduced Peter Farrell with seven minutes to go and his very first touch was to bat the ball into the Dunderry net after brilliant work from the man of the match Ciaran Joyce. Joyce got possession of the ball on the twenty one yard line, took on and beat the full back and headed for goal, he left Farrell's mark with no option but to try and come out and stop his run, when the corner back moved Joyce popped a lovely hand pass to Farrell who then batted the ball to the back of the Dunderry net. Trim up by four and with fifty eight minutes played. Points from Thomas Farrell, Peter Farrell and Douglas in the last four minutes gave Trim a seven point win which looked very unlikely with nine minutes to play.

Trim had very few players who preformed to a decent standard only Ciaran Joyce, Alan Douglas, Colm McGrath Gerard Dwane, Thomas Farrell, Brian Dowling and youngster Cian Lee preformed well on the day.

Trim will be happy to get a win and now move on to another local derby with parish rivals Boardsmill in two weeks time.
