Trim's Stephen Doyle finds the Duleek Bellewstown net for the fourth time

Trim 5-11 Duleek/Bellewstown 1-5

Trim got their championship ambitions back on track by beating last year's Junior C champions Duleek/Bellewstown.

Stephen Doyle got two big surprises in the space of twenty four hours at the weekend. The first big surprise was on Saturday evening when his girlfriend and friends had organised a party to celebrate his thirtieth birthday, the second and an even bigger surprise was that he scored four goals and a point in this Junior B championship match played in Rathkenny early afternoon on Sunday.

On a weekend where Trim teams have perfected the art of early goals Stephen Doyle hit the back of the net after just eight seconds. This broke Cieran Joyces record of ten seconds from Friday evening. Doyle's goal started what was to be an avalanche of scores for the Trim side in the first fifteen minutes. In this time Trim scored three goals and two points to Duleek/Bellewstown  two points. The second goal for came in the seventeenth minute from the very impressive Owen O'Connor who collected the ball in the right corner from a brilliant Alan Shine pass, O'Connor rounded his man and with a burst of speed had left his marker for dead, the keeper advanced but O'Connor blasted the ball to the net with great confidence. The third goal was Stephen Doyle's second and again his positional awareness was to the fore as he pulled away from his marker as Owen O'Connor sped towards goal, O'Connor drew Doyle's marker flicked a lovely pass to Doyle, Doyle in turn shot low to the bottom right corner giving the helpless keeper no chance. During this period of dominance Doyle added a point, O'Connor added two and Cieran Giblin also slotted one over the bar. Trim then increased their lead further with points from Alan Shine, Nigle Dignan, Brian McKeown and two from Dimmy Higgins. In the twenty eight minute The Doyler struck gold again, this goal was a carbon copy of his second one with O'Connor again assisting with the final pass to the unmarked Doyle who again blasted the ball to the net.  Trim now led by four goals and nine point to Duleek/Bellewstowns two points. A feature of this first half performance was a brilliant save form a penalty by youngster Alan Carey in the Trim goals. A big factor in the first half was a very strong wind blowing up the hill in Trim's favour.

Half Time Score : Trim 4-9 Duleek/Bellewstown 0-2

With the aid of the afore mentioned strong wind Duleek/Bellewstown got proceeding off to a good start for themselves in the second half with two very well take points in the thirty second and thirty third minute. Trim answered these scores with a points of their own from the unmarkable Owen O'Connor in the thirty ninth minute and one from Cieran Giblin a minute later. Trim's opposition in the green and gold pulled a goal back midway through the second half and they had now a small glimmer of hope. This hope never materialised as neither team mustered a score for the next fourteen minutes.

Then the Doyler was back in action. He had been starved of any real possession in the second half as the Duleek/Bellewstown team had him doubled marked. Every top striker waits his time for the next chance and Stephen Doyle did just that he waited and watched as his team kicked a total of twelve second half wides. For his fourth goal, the ace marksman slipped both of his markers and gained possession of the ball twelve yard from goal and from a lovely Alan Shine pass took one look and blasted the ball to the net to beat the keeper on the near post.

This was a very good performance from the Town side and rounded of a very successful seven days for Trim Gaa club on the football field. The Junior D's got the ball rolling last Sunday, Intermediate team had a great win on Friday night and the Junior B's did their part yesterday.
