April 13, 2018

Seneschalstown's James O'Hare beats Luke Brady St. Colmcilles to the ball during the Meath U17 Division 1 FL final at Lomans Park Trim.

Seneschalstown 2-10 St Colmcilles 0-6

Seneschalstown claimed the first bit of club silverware on offer in 2017 when overcoming St. Colmcilles in the Meath Under 17 Division 1 Football League final played in dull conditions at a well appointed Lomans Park Trim.

St Colmcilles came in to this decider favourites having won the Under 16 Division 1 championship and league titles last year.

The Yellow Furze men, who had three Rathkenny players in their ranks - James O'Hare, Tom Bannon and Jeaic Timmons - finished the opening half a point to the good. The impressive David Bell got the opening score for the 'Seasiders'. Bell finished the first 30 with three points. Seneschalstown replied to that opening score with a brace from Kit Waddington and Joey Moore. Like Bell, Moore scored two more in the opening period as his team went in at the break 0-5 to 0-4 in front.

One of the Rathkenny trio, Jeaic Timmons extended Seneschalstown's lead to two with the opening score of the second half. Minutes later Ross Mullen was fouled in the Colmcilles square and Moore stepped up to blast the ball to the net from the penalty spot.

The Cilles replied with two points from Bell and had a glorious chance to level the game when Ewan Coghlan's shot was cleared of the line. From there on Seneschalstown took over Cillian Lawlor raced forward from the half back line to fire over a great point. Midfielder Padraig Finnegan put the game beyond doubt with his sides second goal. Substitutes Woodley Nicholson and Tom Smith added points before James O'Hare wrapped up proceeding with the last score of the game.

After the match new Minor Board Secretary Brian Kelly presented the Dickser Dunne Cup to Seneschalstown captain Simon Rooney.
