The late George Rigg The death took place of George Rigg, Ballymore-Eustance, Co Kildare and formerly of Bloomfield, Hollymount. George, a member of the Church of Ireland community, was one of the founding members of Hollymount GAA. He took a very active interest in the club during his years in the area and still maintained that interest after moving to Kildare in the early 1970s. His father, who was a timber merchant, came from Pendernyn, Wales and married Edith Mills Golden from Bloomfield, Hollymount on July 12, 1922. One of their family, David, died at the age of 11. George Snr died in 1956 at the age of 62 while Edith died in 1979. She was 81. George Jnr became closely involved with the local community in Hollymount and was also widely known in farming circles. While the Rigg family were associated with the timber business, George also branched out into pig-rearing and had quite an extensive enterprise before opting to move to Kildare. He retained a great affinity with the Hollymount region and always loved to meet his old friends and neighbours and keep in touch with matters in his home area. He was regarded as a very gracious and pleasant gentleman who always commanded the height of regard and respect among his neighbours and friends in the Hollymount and Robeen region. A service of committal was held in Hollymount Church yard and was attended by many of his old neighbours, all of whom had the fondest of memories of a kind and courteous gentleman who never lost his fondness for his native Mayo.
