Moran blow for Mayo

April 24, 2007
Mayo's injury problems have worsened with the news that up-and-coming midfielder Barry Moran is facing a lengthy lay-off after damaging ankle ligaments. Moran sustained the injury during last Saturday's All-Ireland under 21 semi-final defeat to Laois, and the early indications are that he will be sidelined for up to eight weeks, which would rule him out of Mayo's Connacht SFC opener against Galway on May 20. Mayo boss John O'Mahony remains hopeful that David Brady and Trevor Mortimer will have regained full fitness in time for the Galway game. Brady's thigh injury is close to recovery and Mortimer is also on the mend. But both Ciaran McDonald (back) and Ronan McGarrity, who continues to make progress after treatment for testicular cancer, look certain to miss out.
