The late Michael Prendergast The death had taken place, following an illness borne with courage and good humour, of Mr Michael J Prendergast, Bridge Street, Louisburgh, on of the area's best-known personalities. For several years he ran the family drapery and shoe business at Bridge Street, as well as having extensive farming interests. Michael J played in his younger days on the Louisburgh GAA team and always had a great love of native games. He always had a great passion for his native place and the areas surrounding Louisburgh. One of his favourite places was Inisturk, where he had many cousins with whom he maintained close links. Indeed, all the islands of Clew Bay were very dear to him. Michael J loved to socialise and had a great reputation as a singer. WHile his children were of a young age, Michael J's family life was shattered by the death of his beloved wife Beth (nee Collins) and it was a blow from which he never fully recovered. His love for his children knew no bounds and in later years his grandchildren were very special to him. Michael J will be sadly missed by his sons Clem (Leitrim) and Pat (Dublin), daughters Michelle McKenna (Trim) and Lydia Mulvany (Trim), brother Dr Paddy Prendergast (Tralee), sisters Phil Boylson and Ter Foley (Castlebar) and Mae Gibbons (Aughagower), sons-in-law Mark and Ronan, daughters-in-law Alison and Kendal, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, aunt, cousins, neighbours and a wide circle of friends. He was predeceased by his sister Lil and his brother James. Removal was from Sweeney's Funeral Home to St Patrick's Church, Louisburgh, accompanied by a representative cortege. Fr Sean O'Leary officiated at the reception ceremony and the celebrants of Michael J's funeral Mass were Fr Michael Darcy, Fr Paddy Gill, Fr Michael Lyons (cousin) and Fr Leo Morahan. Family members read the lessons and prayers of the faithful and brought the offertory gifts to the altar. Michael J was laid to rest in Kilgeever Cemetery. May his soul rest in peace.
