Mullarkey, Sean

April 18, 2006
The late Sean Mullarkey Sean Mullarkey, Bohola, was very well known and highly respected in Kiltimagh where he will be sadly missed. Sean was a very lively and outgoing person and, although born in 1916, he enjoyed good health and was out and about until quite recently. He made the short journey to Kiltimagh on a regular basis when he loved to meet and have a chat with old friends. He was always in good humour with a big smile on his face and one felt he would go on forever but, sadly, age does eventually creep up and he died peacefully at his home in Listristane surrounded by his wife and family who had looked after him so lovingly in his final weeks. Originally from Co. Sligo, Sean operated a travelling shop for many years and provided a regular service in the days before supermarket shopping. He was a noted Gaelic footballer in his younger days and represented his native county with distinction at senior level in both league and championship. He played football with Kiltimagh and was honoured by the club when he was the recipient of the Hall of Fame award in January 2003. In presenting the award his fellow county man, Fr Paddy Kilcoyne, recounted Sean's exploits on the playing fields in Sligo, Mayo and Galway and in the Sigerson Cup Competition when he was a member of the UCD team that was defeated by Galway in 1940. Sean was a caring and loving husband, father and grandfather and he will be missed by his wife and family and by all his many friends for a long time to come. After reposing at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Petua and Brian Mooney in Kiltimagh removal took place to Bohola Parish Church and after Concelebrated Mass on Sunday, April 2, he was laid to rest in Kilkinure Cemetery, Kiltimagh. He is mourned by his wife Monica, sons John, David and Leo, daughter Petua, grandchildren, extended family, neighbours and a large circle of friends. Courtesy of the Western People 18 April 2006
