The Late Tom McNamara Tom McNamara, Drumady, who died recently at his residence, was an esteemed member of the local farming community down through the years. He was in his late 80s and was highly thought of by all who knew him. He was a brother of the famous footballer of former times, "Pop" McNamara who featured with Mayo in the mid to late 1940s. Matters relating to gaelic games were always close to his heart and he was ever proud of the achievements and exploits of his brother in the green and red of Mayo. Tom married Mary Fahy and they raised a family of two sons, Joe and Michael. He was pleased to see them maintain the interest in GAA games and both lined out on numerous occasions with Carramore club over a good many years. Tom worked the land and enjoyed the friendship of the farming fraternity. A regular at the local fairs in former times, he was also a familiar figure at the marts in Claremorris and Balla for many years. He was ever true to his deep roots in rural Mayo. Smyth's pub in Main Street where delighted in sharing conversation and memories with the regular clientele. A man of quiet, unassuming and gentle disposition. Tom will be fondly remembered by his family and good friends. Removal took place to Taugheen Church with burial in Mayo Abbey cemetery following Requiem Mass celebrated by Msgr. Dermot Moloney, P.P., assisted by Fr James Quinn. Tom, who was predeceased by his brothers "Pop" and "Bobo" (Pat), is survived by his wife Mary and sons Joe and Mike, daughters-in-law Helena and Gillian, grandchildren, brother Gerry (Claremorris), sisters Annie (England) and Mary Delia ( a nun in Australia), relatives, neighbours and friends.
