HOLLYMOUNT ARE THE MAYO SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS FOR 1991. TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR CLUB: One of two in the parish, Hollymount is a small club. We won the junior county in 1956 and 1964 and went senior in the late '70s, early '80s. Honours for the club include a Mayo League in 1980, various underage titles, intermediate championship and league in 1989, 2 Super Leagues in 1990 and 1991 and the senior league and championship in 1990 and 1991. It takes a big commitment and hard work to achieve success because we have a small panel of players to work from
YOU HAVE QUITE A BIT OF EMIGRATION IN YOUR AREA: There is a bit of emigration alright, and what is as bad is that people have to go to Dublin, Cork or Limerick to get work or third level education. This really effects the numbers that play football and that train during the week but football won't make a living for anybody - only enjoyment
TO DATE, MAYO HAVE NOT ENJOYED A GREAT NFL RUN. CAN YOU IMPROVE IN TIME FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP? We certainly can. We wouldn't be training in the winter and long evenings of spring unless we knew we had a chance and time for all improvements
YOU HAVE TO TRAVEL TO GALWAY TO TAKE ON YOUR NEIGHBOURS IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP. COULD THAT UPSET MATTERS? I don't see any reason why it should - it all depends on the form on the day - no matter where the match is played
HAS NEW MANAGER BRIAN MCDONALD IMPROVED THINGS? Too soon to see any changes as he's only in the job a short time
FINALLY, ALL OF IRELAND RECOGNISE THAT MAYO HAS, AS ALWAYS, SOME FINE FOOTBALLERS. BUT WILL THE TEAM OF 1992 POSSESS THE STEEL AND DETERMINATION TO GO ALL THE WAY? We're team-building at the moment and management is giving everybody a chance, and all will be revealed in June. Yes, the determination and spirit is there already
