Mayo 1-11
Galway 0-12
Mayo have been crowned Connacht junior football champions after a late surge saw them edge out Galway in an exciting final at Carrick-on-Shannon.
Seven points (six frees) from Darren Coen and a second half Ronan Mallee goal were crucial to the outcome. Goalkeeper Bernard Power gave Galway an early lead from a '45', but the winners levelled through Coen and went on to hold a slender 0-5 to 0-4 lead at the interval.
The Tribesmen resumed with points from Matthew Reddington and Antaine O Laoi before Mallee's goal put Mayo back in front, 1-6 to 0-7.
Galway battled back to take the lead again, but Mayo weren't to be denied as late scores from Gary Keane, Coen and Mallee secured the silverware.
