James Horan says Roscommon were flattered to lose to Mayo by only four points.

Horan felt his former charges' dominance wasn't reflected on the scoreboard at Hyde Park.

"Mayo could have won this game pulling up. They are stronger and more experienced than Roscommon and it showed," he writes in today's Irish Daily Star.

"Mayo had a huge amount of wides with the wind in the first half and squandered four decent goal chances. They absolutely dominated possession with Seamus O'Shea and Tom Parsons well on top around the middle.

"For the first 25 minutes, Roscommon couldn't get past the half-way line. So Mayo could have given the home side a serious trimming. They should have been out sight at half-time. It has to be said at Roscommon were really poor yesterday. They were off the pace, standing off their men and, when they had the wind, their first reaction was to pass backwards or sideways.

"To me, they looked a bit scared of Mayo. There's been a lot of hype over Roscommon in recent weeks, and they have had some big wins. But Roscommon have flattered to deceive a lot over the past five years or so.

"They're often talked up - remember John Evans saying they'd win the All-Ireland? - but fail to deliver when the pressure comes on."
