A tribute to a gentle giant

Crossmolina's Joe Moffatt passed away recently. The well-known sportsman had lived a life filled to the brim with family, sport and community activity. Recently a friend and former team-mate, Denis Sheehan from Pinner, North London paid this moving tribute to the great Gael.

"I was deeply saddened to heat of the very untimely death of my good friends Joe Moffatt. Joe played for the Parnell's and the London team for many years and always wore the jersey with much pride and honour. One of my many happy memories of Joe was his magnificent display of football while playing for London against Dublin in Croke Park in 1960. He completely outplayed the mighty Yank Murray. I know, as I played for London too on that day.

In my opinion Joe was one of the greatest players ever to grace a football field and his name deserves to be included in any list of London's best ever 15. His tremendous loyalty and dedication to Parnell's should never be forgotten and he will always be remembered on and off the field, as The Gentle Giant. May he rest in peace."
