Wedding Bells:
The Tooreen Hurling Club wishes the 'Best of Luck' to our club chairman Peter Finn who will wed Yvonne Fitzmaurice on this Friday 27th January in Ballyhaunis church. Peter and Yvonne are wished a long and happy life together - from all friends and colleagues in the Tooreen Hurling Club.
Joint Dinner Dance:
The Tooreen Hurling Club and the Na Brideoga Camogie Club will host a joint dinner dance on Saturday 3rd March in the Park Hotel Kiltimagh commencing at 7:30. Special guests on the night include Dublin hurling full-back Peter Kelly, who has strong Mayo connections, as his mother hails from Curhaunagh in Aghamore, while his father hails from Bohola. Also, Galway camogie star Veronica Curtin, will be on hand to toast the Na Brideaoga Camogie club on their achievements in 2011. A Five Course Meal will be served on the night with, live music and DJ until late. Tickets for the event cost Eur25 and are available from the following dinner-dance committee officers: Maria Coyne, Yvonne Byrne, Johnny Cunnane, Cathal Freeman, Paul Hunt, Kenny Feeney, Colm Mitchell, Kitty Morley, Brian Delaney, Ger Doherty & Geraldine Delaney.
County Senior Panelists:
The following Tooreen hurlers are currently in training with the Mayo Senior Hurling side in preparation for the upcoming National Hurling League, which commences on Sunday 26th February away to Roscommon in Athleague. Manager Murt Connolly has called in Shane Morley, Cathal Freeman, Kenny Feeney, Sean Markham, Greg Henry, Gary Nolan and Ciaran Charlton, with regular training taking place in the Connacht Centre of Excellence Astropark in Bekan. The Mayo side is trained by Ciaran Hynes (Westport) with Christy Phillips (Claremorris) as selector. The players and management are wished 'All The Best' for the coming season.
Club All-Star:
Congrats to Tooreen captain Shane Morley who was recently named the Western People Mayo Hurler of the Year for 2011. The accolade rounds off an inpressive year for the Arderry player, after featuring in the Irish Hurling/Shinty side aswell as picking up a Christy Ring All-Star in 2011. Shane is currently in training with the Connacht Interprovincial Hurling team who play Ulster in February, aswel as the Mayo senior hurling team. The Western People Sports Star Awards night takes place on Friday night the 24th February in the McWilliam Park Hotel in Claremorris.
U14 Hurling Challenge Result:
Tooreen 2-10 Athenry 0-7 @ The Connacht Astropark. Well done to manager Austin Kenny and his charges on a great display recently against Galway king-pins Athenry. Next match is on Sunday 29th January away to Padraig Pearses (Ross) in the SVL. Tooreen Team: Bobby Douglas; John Cassidy, Pj Burke, Christopher Murphy; Michael Freyne, Brian Morley, Connor MacEwan; Cillian English, Ross Egan; Sean Kenny, Nathan Boles, David Gannon; Owen Delaney, Sean Frayne, Ciaran Doherty. The goals came from Owen Delaney and David Gannon.
