Mrs Josephine Duffy
Myna, Kilmeena, Wesport

The death took place of Mrs Josephine Duffy, Myna, Kilmeena, and Westport.
She was aged 81 years and was daughter of the late Patrick and Ann Chambers, Kilbride, Newport.
A retired shopkeeper, she was predeceased by her husband Jack Duffy whom she married in 1950.
Josephine's special interests in life were her family, her local church, the local community, Kilmeena GAA, gardening and farming.
Following their marriage Josephine and Jack set up home in Myna, Kilmeena, next door to St Brendan's Church. They ran a grocery and sweet shop for many years, aided by their daughter Mary Jo who was truly the love of their lives.
Josephine had a great love for the local community and always delighted in hearing of young people doing well in their lives. She followed their career paths with interest, often recalling the times she sold sweets and ice cream to them in her shop.
Josephine was a great gardener and had a very keen interest in farming and the outdoor life.
She was one of Kilmeena GAA Club's greatest fans and followed the fortunes of club teams and players throughout her life. She was a real people person and derived great pleasure from visits by family members and friends.
Josephine was very popular and much-loved figure in the community and news of her passing brought back many memories of very happy days in 'the shop' down through the years. She was a woman of great warmth and hospitality to all who called to her immediate and extended family.
She will be very sadly missed by her loving daughter Mary Jo (Myna, Kilmeena), brothers Peter Chambers (Kilbride, Newport) and Frank Chambers (London), sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.
A cortege representative of all sections of the community accompanied her removal from McGing's Funeral Home, Westport, to St Brendan's Church, Myna, where Fr Jim Walsh, PP, officiated at the reception ceremony.
The concelebrants of her Funeral Mass were Fr Jim Walsh and Fr Atty Devine. The lessons and prayers of the faithful were read by her many nieces and nephews and the funeral liturgy was beautifully enhanced by the singing of the Church Choir and sisters Belinda Geraghty and Caroline Ginnelly.
In the Mass homily Fr Jim Walsh paid tribute to Josephine for her many Christian qualities, her great dedication to her local church to her family, neighbours, wider community and her many friends. As a believer in the Resurrection of Christ she was now reunited with her husband Jack in her heavenly home.
Josephine was laid to rest in the family grave in Myna Cemetery. May she have peaceful rest. Ar dheis De go raibh a h-anaim dilis.
