Daly, Michael

July 14, 2009
The death took place recently of Michael Daly, Skevard, Ballindine. He was aged 51, and news of his passing was received with sadness and regret by the many people who knew him throughout the locality. He had been coping with an illness since last July.

Michael was one of a family of two born to Mary and the late John Daly. Michael and his sister, Margaret (Brennan) were the best of friends.
Michael was especially noted for his kind and friendly nature. His gentle presence was always appreciated and he was an excellent neighbour and friend.
He had a special empathy with nature and animals and many were the times he was assigned to take care of animals and pets and livestock when neighbours were away on holidays or various occasions. They knew that anything they had entrusted to Michaels care was safe and in the best of hands.
In his younger days, he worked for a time in Mike Conroy's tubular steel premises in Mount Street, Claremorris.
Over the years, he took a keen interest in sport, especially Gaelic games and served as a goalie with Claremorris VS team during his time in the old school down Convent Road. He was especially friendly with his cousin, Mick Mongan from Ballygowan, who was full back on the St Colman's team that won the Connacht Colleges A title back in 1981. The sudden death of Mick three years ago impacted greatly on Michael.

He had an abiding interest in music, and his tastes were wide and varied, ranging from Smokie, Simply Red and Roy Orbinson to The Champions, The Indians and other Irish bands that played the dancehall circuit over the years. He loved music and the dancing scene, and it was a great source of joy and contentment for him.
Diagnosed with an illness last year, Michael showed characteristic courage and bravery and fought the good fight to the end. He retained a positive attitude, and his great sense of compassion never diminished during his own time of dealing with his illness. The community around Ballindine lost a good and kind soul with the passing of Michael Daly.

Removal took place from Carey's Funeral Home to Ballindine Church with burial in the local cemetery following Requiem Mass celebrated by Fr Martin O'Connor PP.
Michael, who was predeceased by his father John in 1983, is survived by his mother, Mary; sister, Margaret; brother-in-law, Kevin Brennan, nephews, Sean and Niall, relations, neighbours and friends.
