Hanley makes Mayo cut

Mayo's Cian Hanley

Cian Hanley has been included in Mayo's squad for their upcoming championship campaign while Alan Freeman and Jason Gibbons have been deemed surplus to requirements.

According to rte.ie, former minor captain Hanley - who recently returned from a three-year stint with the Brisbane Lions - is very much part of Stephen Rochford's plans as they prepare for an eagerly anticipated Connacht SFC quarter-final showdown with arch rivals Galway.

The 22-year-old lined out for Ballaghaderreen in the local club championship last weekend.

Meanwhile, despite starting their first three league games, Gibbons has been omitted by Rochford and his selectors.

Freeman has also been a regular in recent years but his sole appearance in the league came as a late substitute against Donegal in round 7.

Castlebar Mitchels duo Ger McDonagh and Donie Newcombe have also been let go.
