Marys let Clarke leave
April 12, 2008
St Marys have decided not to stand in the way of Darren Clarke's transfer to Dublin club St Sylvester's.
The Louth forward will hook up with the Malahide outfit after the Ardee men signed the release form to clear the way for a straightforward switch.
Club secretary Ango Courtney confirmed: "We are devastated to lose a player of Darren's calibre and it couldn't have come at a worse time.
"We've lost Alan Doherty - he's away in Liverpool - and Paul Malone is working in London. We also have three or four lads in Australia.
"But we've decided not to stand in Darren's way and he's left on amicable terms. We hope he'll return to us, if not next year, then the year after."
Meanwhile, Sylvester's plans to snap up a second Wee County star were foiled when Jamie Carr's transfer from Newtown Blues was refused by the CCC due to doubts over the player's residence.
