Geraldines topped Group 4 of the Senior Championship as they followed up their opening day victory over St Patricks by defeating O Raghallaighs at The Grove on Saturday evening.

Although the Haggardstown side finished up with a ten-point winning margin they certainly didn't have it all their own way and it wasn't until the O Raghallaighs had Ciaran Brassil sent off in the third quarter that they really took control.

Once again it was a good overall team performance that saw the Gers through but a lot of the credit goes to Jim McEneaney who finished the day with ten points to his name.

Boosted by their win the previous week, the Gers began in confident mood and with Gerard Hoey and Shane O'Hanlon on the mark along with three points from Jim McEneaney, they were looking comfortable with a 0-5 to 0-1 lead.

However, the O Raghllaighs fought back well and scored six of the next seven points to lead by 0-7 to 0-6 before a late Glen Trainor point sent his side into the break level at seven points apiece.

It wasn't looking good for the O Raghallaighs when the early exchanges of the second half saw them slip 0-12 to 0-8 while they also had Ciaran Brassil sent off. However, the Drogheda men refused to give up and got back to within a point when Barry Flanagan scored the only goal of the game.

Unfortunately for the O Raghallaighs couldn't build on that score as the Gers began to make the extra man count but points from Trainor, O'Hanlon and McEneaney quickly restored their grip on proceedings as they went 0-18 to 1-8 ahead before the O Raghallaighs scored again.

There was no way back for the O Raghallaighs at that stage as the Geraldines cruised to victory. However, the Drogheda men will have a chance to make the last eight when they take on St Patricks in their final game this weekend.
