FL3 round-up: Glyde score comfortable victory

April 24, 2017

Trevor O'Brien - Glyde Rangers

Glyde Rangers scored a comfortable 1-18 to 0-8 victory against Nh Mairtin without having to really break into full stride. Despite conceding the first score to Nicky McDonnell after only a minute, Glyde were dominant through the field, although like the match against Roche last week were not entirely lethal when it came to score taking.

The Tallanstown men got off to a great start as Ciaran Sheridan scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot on eight minutes. With the help of points from Trevor O'Brien, Brian Duffy and Niall Sharkey, the visitors went in at the break leading by 1-11 to 0-3.

The second half was a foregone conclusion and although the Martins showed a bit more adventure. Glyde never really got going and as both teams emptied their bench, the game lost a lot of its shape, and in the end the Tallanstown side were happy to return home with a 13-point win.

Lannleire made it two wins from two helped by a tremendous second half performance at Courtbane on Sunday as they scored a 4-12 to 2-8 win.

Spectators were treated to a lively opening ten minutes which saw three green flags raised, Colin Murphy's goal for Lannleire sandwiched between two majors for Naomh Malachi from Collie Rooney and Jamie Kelly as the Mals led 2-4 to 1-5 at the break.

Inside the first ten minutes of the second half, Lannleire turned a two point deficit into a four point advantage helped by two very well taken goals by Breen McGuinness and Colin Murphy.  Padraig Moley scored Nh Malachi's third point of the second half on 44 minutes but three minutes later, Colin Murphy ensured the visitors would be leaving with the two points when he crashed to the net his third and Lannleire's fourth goal of the contest.

Stabannon Parnells scored a surprise win over neighbours St Kevins as they came out on top by 1-13 to 1-10.

The winners were in fine form in the first half and a goal from Wayne Lynch saw them take a commanding 1-10 to 0-5 lead at half time.

St Kevins fought back in the second half and hit the net through Cian Callan but Parnells held out for a three-point win.

John Mitchels scored an important victory when they held off a late Dowdallshill rally to win by 3-10 to 2-12 at Ballybailie.

A goal from Paul Gill helped the Hill to lead by 1-8 to 1-6 at the break but the Mitchels came storming back and led by seven in the closing stages. Aidan McCabe, who finished with 1-8, led the comeback with a goal for the Hill but it was too late to deny the hosts.

The Mitchels goals on the day came from Barry Kirk, Robbie Coyle and Mikey Nulty.

Meanwhile, Roche Emmets had a very comfortable win over Sean McDermotts as they finished winners by 4-19 to 0-6.

David Quigley caught the eye in scoring terms as he finished with a hat-trick, while Barry O'Hare contributed 1-8 as the winners led by 2-7 to 0-3 at half time. Tony Kelly top scored with five points for the winners.

The remaining game between Westerns and St Brides scheduled for Saturday night was postponed.
