Fitzer in the wars

Louth manager Peter Fitzpatrick
Louth football boss and TD Peter Fitzpatrick was assaulted at a heated rally to support hospital services in Drogheda at the weekend.
Fitzpatrick, who was elected to the Dail last year, appeared to be slapped in the face by a woman in the crowd at the rally in support of retaining HSE services for elderly patients at the local Cottage Hospital. Fitzpatrick and fellow Fine Gael TD Fergus O'Dowd and Labour's Gerald Nash had declined to sign a pledge which would have involved them agreeing to vote, if necessary, against the Government on the issue.
The two other TDs for Louth, Fianna Fail's Seamus Kirk and Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams, both signed the pledge - and unlike the other three - were allowed to address the 700-strong crowd.
Away from politics, Fitzpatick's Louth beat Crossmaglen Rangers in a weekend challenge match as they gear up for their NFL opener against Westmeath on February 5.
