Glen Emmets 0-09
Sean Mc Dermotts 1-06
A last gasp equalizing point from captain Patrick Osborne ensured a reprieve for Sean Mc Dermotts in Saturday evenings JFC semi-final clash at Ardee.
For the second year in a row Mc Dermotts must face into a semi final replay in their bid to clinch a first Championship final appearance since 2001.
Both these side were eliminated in the penultimate round twelve months ago,
Emmets falling to St Fechins and McDermotts succumbing to eventual winners St Mochtas in a replay having had one foot in the final in the first match.
On that occasion it was Mochtas who reeled in Seans with a last gasp leveler, but this time around it was Seans who needed the rescuing score.
Ironically lying in wait in the final are Naomh Finbarra, the team which denied them a historic IFC that year.
Before they can harbor any thoughts of renewing old acquaintances with the Toghermen, massive improvements must be made on a lackluster second half performance in poor match, littered with errors throughout.
Seans led by 1-03 to 0-02 at the break, their goal coming from Daniel Woods at the twenty minute mark, when he drilled a low shot through the legs of Emmets keeper Fergus Bartnett.
Amazingly, that was to be their last score for 28 minutes as the Tullyallenmen took control of proceedings, dominating the second half exchanges and overturning the four point deficit to lead 0-07 to 1-03.
Emmets would surely have put the game to bed had corner forward Keith Rooney not seen his 50th minute effort turned around the post for a 45 by the Seans keeper.
Both sides swapped points in the final minutes before an Eamon Mullen point on the stroke of full-time looked sure to have secured Glen Emmets passage into the Christy Bellew decider.
However Mc Dermotts went to search of a last gasp rescuing score which duly arrived from the boot of skipper Osborne 3 minutes into added time.
Jim Matthews will surely be the more relieved of the managers, as Brian Carroll's Emmets will possibly believe they did enough in the second period to prevail.
Followers of both clubs will feel they still have a fighting chance but major improvement will be needed if either of these sides are to overcome a very impressive Finbarrs side in the final.
