The late Paddy Bracken There was a great sadness among the residents of Longford town and its surrounds recently as news of the death of Patrick (Paddy) Bracken spread. Paddy, residing at Harbour View, Longford and late of Batterstown, Co. Meath, died on January 4. He was the husband of Doreen and loving father of Gillian and the late Niall, who died just over one year ago. Paddy was a brother of Brendan Bracken who works in the advertising department of the Longford Leader, and also an uncle of Sports Reporter, Padraic O'Brien. Paddy served his time as a compositor with the Longford Leader before moving to Galway to work with O'Gorman's printers for a number of years. He then moved to the Irish Independent, where he worked until his retirement. Paddy was a well-known and popular man, especially in the GAA circles. He was Secretary of Killoe Young Emmets in the late 1950's/early '60's and was also a playing member of the Club. His passing is deeply regretted by his sorrowing family, sister, Maura O'Brien; brothers, Mike, John, James, Tony and Brendan; aunts, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. His remains were brought to St Mel's Cathedral with burial to Cullyfad Cemetery after funeral mass last Saturday. The management and staff of the Longford Leader wish to extend their deepest sympathy to the family of Paddy Bracken on their loss. May he rest in peace.
