Burke, Michael

The late Michael Burke There was great sadness and shock when the news became known that Michael Burke of Robinstown had passed away following a short illness in Mullingar Hospital. Mickey as we all knew him as, was a big man with a big heart who was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it and he never would count the cost. In the late fifties Mickey played minor championship medal and in the early sixties when the Ballymore Club was revived he wore the black and amber with pride and always followed his club's fortunes since and supported them in any fundraising venture they organised. In later years Mickey married Anne Sheridan from Granard and together they reared their three daughters and one son all of whom area great credit to their beloved parents. Mickey's remains were removed from his family home to St Mary's Church, Granard where they were met with a guard of honour from both St Mary's and Ballymore Football Clubs. Huge crowds attended for the Funeral Mass after which Mickey was laid to rest in Granardkille Cemetery. We offer our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to his beloved wife Anne; his daughters Aine Dalton, Dalystown, Cait McCabe, Glenview Lounge, Aughnacliffe and Nuala Quinn, Ballinacross; his son Michael in Abbeylara; sons-in-law Raymond, Gerry and Pauric; daughter-in-law Catherine; grandchildren and extended family and we pray that they will be comforted at this very sad time. May the sod in Granardkille rest gently on you Michael and may he rest in peace. Courtesy of The Longford Leader 08/08/2006
