McLoughlin, Kevin

July 30, 2005
The Late Kevin McLoughlin It was with great sadness that we learnt of the untimely death of Kevin McLoughlin Corrick Moyne Co. Longford on Friday night June 24th after a short illness. Kevin was indeed one life's true gentlemen and he dedicated his life to his family and his beloved football club Dromard. For approximately 60 years Kevin represented his Club in almost every position from player to Chairman. In 1954 Kevin made his way on to the Longford Junior team and also on the same year was Club secretary a unique achievement in it self, he also became chairman sometime later and was selector on the senior team for many years. Kevin came from a family of footballers with his brothers Con (deceased) and Eamon both representing Longford at a number of levels, indeed Kevin's sons Con, Brendan and John (deceased) are a big part of the club, Con and Brendan have both played at all levels for Dromard and Con would have surely collected a winning senior championship medal in 1999 only for the fact that a serious knee injury cut his career short while Brendan continues to play at all levels for the club. John was a very big part of the underage scene in Domard until he was tragically taken from us in 1991 Kevin daughters also represented Dromard Ladies GFC at a number of levels. Kevin was a grassroots member of Dromard GFC and he worked tirelessly to make the club what it is today never missing a meeting or function or a game at any level and he is one of the very few people that was on both development committees which developed pitches in the 1970s and 1990s, Kilticon and Parc Na Gael, he was also part of the committee that secured the current playing grounds from the land commission and has played a big part on the current Lotto Committee that is so successful. Kevin was a man who enjoyed life's simple pleasures and he enjoyed nothing more than a game of Bingo on a Thursday night in the old Latin school or a game of cards with his many friends on a Friday night in The Breffni Arms or in a neighbours house, Kevin was also a man of the land and he derived great pleasure and satisfaction from his well run family farm and was always available to help out a neighbour in need. To Kevin's wife Bernadette, sons Con and Brendan, daughters Mary, Christina, Breege, Patricia and Nuala, Brother and Sister and his extended family and relatives and his many many friends we extend our sincere sympathy, Kevin you will be sadly missed, May you rest in Peace.
