Kinehan, James

May 13, 2005
The Late James Kinehan We regret to record the death of a lifelong supporter of the Colmcille GAA team, James Kinegan of 138 Llewellyn Walk, Corby, which took place following a brief illness at Leicester City Hospital. James spent his boyhood years in Corrikadorish, before becoming an attendant in St. Joseph's Hospital, Longford where he is remembered as a very dedicated staff member. On his marriage to his wife Sarah, who hails from Mullinalaghta, they, like many in those years, took the boat to England and settled down in Corby. Shortly after his arrival in the Northhamiltonshire town, he became a member of the local O'Rahilly's GAA Club and it is acknowledged that he played a big part in the development of the Club's fabulous Irish Centre where I had the pleasure of spending a very enjoyable evening over two decades ago. As the years rolled by James son, also named James became one of the stalwarts of the O'Rahilly's on the playing fields and in the '80s the Club, when on tour met Colmcille in a challenge match in Fr. McGee Park. But there does not appear to by any account of this game in the files. The return match played in Corby on Oct. 2nd 1988, and thanks to the P.R.O, at the time, this is a short extract from his report - "A good size crowd gathered to witness the Colmcille v The Rahilly's in Corby. A very strict referee laid down James Kinehan snr, had the honour of throwing in the ball to start the game. Ned Sheridan got the camera rolling and Liam Higgins was chosen as commentator. Indeed the commentary proved to be a great excerise for Liam's vocal cords as he was to be heard in a Corby public house singing rebel songs until the early hours of the following morning. After a hard hour's football, Colmcille emerged victorious by a single point". In the early '90s the Kinehan family donated a magnificent Cup for competition to the Colmcille Club. Two week's ago James Kinehan was laid to rest following the funeral mass in Corby. The O'Rahilly's to whom he gave many decades of devoted service, were among the large attendance of the funeral ceremonies. Deepest sympathy is extended to his sorrowing family, wife Sarah, son James, daughter Deirdre, together with a large circle of friends and relations. May he rest in peace.
