He's the heart and soul of the club THE HIGH POINT OF YOUR CAREER TO DATE: Winning back to back championships with my club after a gap of 41 years BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: Defeat by Offaly in the first round of the Leinster Championship in 1997. I was literally sick the next day OTHER PLAYERS WITH A PROMISING FUTURE: David Hannify, Niall Sheridan WAYS OF IMPROVING THE GAME: Personally, I agree with two or three of the new rules tested in this year's O'Byrne Cup. Especially the two referees and the clear tackle rule. I would also like to see more GAA resources channelled to the players. The GAA season is too long, compared with that of the rugby or soccer season. Most arguments about the GAA concern money, and I would agree. There is no security for players who get injured while playing football. The present insurance of the GAA offers only a small sum for a player who could be out of work for maybe 3-4 months PERSON YOU WOULD MOST LIKE TO MEET: Ian Wright (what a header!). Maybe the chance will come FAVOURITE PERSONAL SAYING OR TERM OF ABUSE: 'Wicked man' (Prince Naseem) PET HATES: Hurlers on the ditch. People who are in absolutely no position to criticise others, should not do so FAVOURITE MUSIC: U2 FAVOURITE FILM: Titanic IDEAL DATE: Keep on the good side, my girlfriend Emma HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE REMEMBERED? As captain of the Longford team that won the five in a row, something the great Kerry team failed to achieve. Also to have played club championship until at least the age of 60, maybe even longer. And as an honest, down to earth person Taken from Hogan Stand magazine 23rd October 1998 Vol 8 No 43
