Wolfe Tones 2-10
Clonguish Gaels 1-10
Third quarter goals from Patrick Cullen and John Mulhern propelled Wolfe Tones to back-to-back Longford SHC titles at Glennon Brother Pearse Park this afternoon.
In what was a repeat of last year's decider which the Mostrim outfit won by a point, county football star Paul Barden's goal gave Clonguish an early 1-1 to 0-3 lead. After the winners had levelled, Clonguish top-scorer Joe O'Brien edged his side back in front, but points from Jack Lynn and Mulhern ensured the Tones of parity at the break, 0-8 to 1-5.
With the wind to their backs in the second half, Clonguish moved into a 1-7 to 0-8 lead thanks to efforts from Paul Barden and Ciaran Finucane. But a quick-fire 1-1 from Cullen put the Tones 1-9 to 1-7 ahead, and they never looked back after Mulhern added a second goal in the 44th minute.
