McGuire, Jody

November 09, 2013
On Monday morning the 11th November news broke of the death of Jody McGuire at his home in Tashinney, following a long illness. Jody was a well known and popular member of the local community where he lived all his life in his beloved parish of Carrickedmond. Jody was a hardworking, strong and gentle person who was deeply devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren. He was also a great neighbour and friend to the many people who knew him. After leaving school in Clonfide Jody went to work in Board na Mona where he was a popular member of the working staff up until when he retired through ill health. In the early years of his life Jody went through hard times as he suffered ill health but never complained and also went through the mental pain of losing three sons and two daughters who passed away at a young age. However, Jody kept his faith in God and was a regular at mass on Sundays.

He continued to provide for the rest of the family and together with his wife Nancy made the mosts out of life. He was a great GAA man who down through the years was a player and administrator with his local club Carrickedmond. Jody was a proud member of the Carrickedmond teams in the fiftys who brought junior championship and Leader Cup honours back to the parish. Right up until the time of his passing Jody would still be sure to have a report of club games involving Carrickedmond given to him in his armchair at his home. The last honour bestowed on Jody by the club was in January this year when he was the very proud recipient of the Carrickedmond GAA Hall of Fame award. Jody also loved to be involved in other parish activities and for many years gave of his time freely to many parish organisations. Only last September Jody and his wife Nancy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Even though he was very sick at the time Jody still showed his strong side and enjoyed a little party with his family in his hospital bed.

Jody will now be hugely missed in the area by all who knew him but no more so than by his loving wife Nancy his daughters, Noeleen, Ann, Geraldine and Imelda, sons Seamus, Michael, Sean and Paul, sisters Peggy and Patsy, brother Jimmy, son in laws, daughter in laws, grandchildren and other family members to whom we extend our sincere sympathy. The respect by which Jody was held by everyone was most evident by the large number of people who attended both the removal and funeral. Jody's remains were removed from his home in Tashinney to his parish church in Carrickedmond and the burial took place in the local cemetery where Jody's remains were buried alongside his five children twins Michael and Patrick, Padraig, Kathleen and Emer who all predeceased him. May his soul now rest in peace.
