Meagher Cup: Longford up and running

Longford enjoyed a comprehensive victory over Leitrim in their Lory Meagher Cup Round 2 game at Pearse Park.

A goal in the opening minute from John Newman followed by another two from Joe O'Brien and Karl Murray had Longford in pole position by half time as they led 3-6 to 0-3.

Leitrim had centre back Dave McGovern dismissed on a second yellow.

Clement Cunniffe found the range from placed balls for the visitors while Michael Dolan and Paddy Clancy also chipped in with points.

However, Longford closed out the game with scores from Eoin Donnellan and Kevin Connelly.
