Dromard and St. Francis club notes

Dromard
There will be a short get together in the clubhouse this Friday night 16th Dec 2011 at 8pm concerning the GAA Oral History Project. This is a project that has been commissioned by the GAA. The Project aims to record the fullest possible picture of what the GAA has meant to the Irish people, in their own words. The Project will record face-to-face interviews with thousands of people in Ireland and internationally, including GAA members and supporters, and anyone who has ever had any contact or involvement with the GAA. In addition to recording interviews, and in order to reach the largest number of people possible, the GAA Oral History Project is also providing questionnaires for people to fill out. Alternatively, people can simply send the Project a letter or email about the place of the GAA in their lives. For further details visit www.gaahistory.com. All interested people are asked to attend this meeting. The AGM of Dromard GAA senior club is scheduled to take place on Friday 30th December 2011. Nomination forms for positions in the club for 2012 are available in Corrigan's Service Station and in Moyne Cross Stores and should be returned to the clubhouse post box no later than Friday 16th December 2011. In conjunction with Jigscenes.com, Dromard GAA club intend producing a number of children's jigsaws for the Christmas market. The proceeds from this will go towards youth coaching and games development in the club. Jigscenes.com is a company set up by local clubman Bernard Smith, Fyhora along with brothers John and Gearóid Reilly from Gowna. Any photo submitted to them can be produced in jigsaw format. Bernard can be contacted at 087 6916808. The club hope to have a number of jigsaws available in the local shops for the Christmas market. The jigsaws will be available in different levels of difficulty, 8-piece, 50-piece and 150-piece. It's not too often we get the opportunity to recognise All Ireland success on the playing fields but this week we had representatives on two All Ireland winning teams. On Wednesday Gary Maguire, Michael Reynolds and Sean McNerney were part of Cavan Institute's win of the Higher Education Division 3 All Ireland title. The game was played in Cloghan in Co. Monaghan and the opposition were Southwest Regional College. Gary played a key role in this success scoring 2 goals in their 3-07 to 2-04 win. They played a total of 7 games to get to the final beating teams from UCD, DCU and Marino College among others along the way before accounting for Northwest Regional College in the semi final. On Wednesday last Keith Masterson was part of Ballyhaise Agricultural College's win of the All Ireland Agricultural Championship final. Their opposition in the final was Mountbellow Agricultural College. Ballyhaise won on the scoreline of 0-15 to 2-07. Congratulations to these four young players on this great achievement. As part of the Longford County player's Route 66 fundraiser for local social services we had a group of cyclists from the club that cycled from the clubhouse to Longford on Sunday morning last. Thanks to Stephen Reilly, Ray Murphy, James Maguire, Alan McLoughlin and Emmet Masterson who braved the harsh weather conditions to complete this trip. We extend sympathy to Nora & Thomas Mimnagh Moyne on the death of Nora's mother, Lil Dowling, Goresbridge, Co. Kilkenny during the week. Condolences also to the Smyth family Newtowncashel on the tragic passing of gifted sportsperson Alison during the week. Lotto results for Monday night 5th Dec 2011. The numbers drawn were 10, 14, 18 & 19. There was no jackpot winner. The winners of the draw were Michael Smith, Colm McStay, Anne Brady and Catherine Mulvihill. The seller's prize was won by Ned Brady.
