Remembering
Paddy Cosgrave RIP

It was with great sadness and shock to the parish of Killashee and Luton England with the passing of Paddy Cosgrave from Derryadd. Paddy was born in 1941 to parents Paddy and Mary. On the eve of the county junior final in 1959 against Clonguish Paddy broke his ankle while painting his home. Paddy was on the verge of the county team at the time. He was so disappointed with what happened that he decided to emigrate the following few weeks. Paddy headed to Luton. He spent very little time in Luton until him and a couple of friends formed "The St Vincent's Club" in 1960 a club which went form strength to strength and swept the board in all competitions right up to today. This year is of course St Vincent's 50th anniversary. Paddy didn't wait long to surround himself with as many Killashee/Longford men.
At some stage there was up to eight or nine Killashee men involved with the club. In 1965 Killashee decided to bring back four of our famous emigrants for the final this was meant to be the greatest Killashee team ever. The results of this match goes down in Longford folklore. Paddy was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Gerry and Mick and sister Sadie.
When locals talk about Paddy the word "Granite" is quite often used. Paddy never forgot his roots and always returned with his family and wife Marie to Killashee. Best words to describe Paddy would be "gentle and giant"
