Abbeylara's Cormac Smyth collides with Jayson Matthews of Mullinalaghta

Rivals Mullinalaghta and Abbeylara played out a low scoring draw in today’s Longford SFC final.

It finished 0-6 apiece at Glennon Bros Pearse Park and spectators will be hoping for a more entertaining spectacle when the two teams renew acquaintances in the replay next Sunday (3.30pm).

With the wind at their backs, underdogs Abbeylara were one point to the good at the break but the reigning champions seized control of proceedings after the resumption.

Mickey Graham’s men hit three points without reply but Abbeylara refused to concede defeat and scores from Jason Kelly and Nigel Rabbitte levelled mattters.

Abbeylara’s corner-back Cormac Smyth will miss the replay after being shown a red card in stoppage time while the loss of James McGivney to a black card in the first-half weakened Mullinalaghta’s hand.

Abbeylara will be hoping the extra week will give McGivney’s inter-county team-mate Robbie Smyth time to overcome an injury which restricted him to a role as a 25th minute substitute today.
