Padraic Davis will be the next Longford senior football manager.

Longford GAA confirmed this afternoon that the former star forward will be proposed for ratification at the next county board meeting. The Fr Manning Gaels clubman will replace Denis Connerton who stepped down after three seasons in charge five weeks ago.

Davis will be a popular choice among the fans, having worn the blue and gold jersey at senior level from 1995 to 2007 and being Longford's scorer-in-chief for much of that time. He managed the Longford U21s to a Leinster final appearance in 2011 and served as a senior selector under Glenn Ryan before going on to guide Mohill to two Leitrim SFC titles.

The well-known auctioneer also won four Connolly Cups during a successful playing career with Drumlish-outfit Fr Manning Gaels.

"The subcommittee tasked with seeking a new Longford Senior Football Manager have today completed the process and will be proposing the name of Padraic Davis for ratification by Coiste Chontae," a Longford GAA statement read.
